Meeting with Metropolitan Athenagoras of the Greek Orthodox Church

On Friday, February 21, a significant meeting took place between Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, the Pontifical Legate of the Western Europe and Metropolitan Athenagoras, head of the Greek Orthodox Church in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Accompanied by Fathers Zadik Avedikian, Tirayr Hakobyan, and Maghakia Beskisizian. Archbishop Khajag visited the Archdiocese to strengthen relations and discuss the progress of the Armenian Church in the region.
During the meeting, Archbishop Khajag introduced the three Armenian clergy who play a pivotal role in serving five Armenian Church communities in Belgium. This introduction aimed to highlight the collaborative efforts of the Armenian and Greek Orthodox Churches in fostering a spirit of unity among Orthodox communities.
Metropolitan Athenagoras welcomed the news about the new developments within the Armenian Church in Belgium, recognizing the importance of inter-church dialogue and cooperation. His role as the official representative of all Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Churches to the Belgian government underscores his influence in advocating for the interests of these communities. He expressed genuine joy over the Armenian Church’s advancements and voiced his strong support for future projects aimed at furthering their mission.
